Called To Lead - Called To Serve

What makes someone a leader? What leadership qualities do you possess?
A leader isn’t just someone with a title or position—they’re someone who inspires and guides others toward a common goal through vision, integrity, empathy, and action.
And what kind of action? I’d say hard work.
A true leader earns trust, sets the tone, lifts others up, and stays committed to the greater good—even when the road gets tough. Leadership isn’t about being in charge; it’s about taking responsibility and serving others well.
Solomon once wrote, “Hard workers will become leaders, but those who are lazy will be slaves.” (Proverbs 12:24 NCV)
He’s not talking about physical slavery here—but rather, how our choices lead to consequences.
Laziness leads to dependence. It limits freedom. It hands over control to others. On the flip side, diligence leads to leadership. Hard work builds trust, earns respect, and creates opportunity.
I remember journaling years ago about what I called the “Three L’s”—Laziness, Lust, and Lying.
They’re common pitfalls in all of us. We want what we don’t have (lust). We cover things up (lying). And we tend to take the easy road (laziness).
Why is that? Probably because selfishness runs deep. And selfishness always leads us off course.
But here’s the thing: some people work hard and lead well—but lose themselves in the process. They sacrifice their families, their health, or their integrity chasing success.
So, this isn't just about hustle—it's about balance, self-reflection, and honesty.
I know I say this a lot, but we simply can’t go wrong walking close to God. He leads us, teaches us, corrects us, provides for us, and forgives us—through Jesus and the help of the Holy Spirit.
He is the Lord Almighty. He’s in control of everything.
So how’s your walk with God these days? Is there anything you’ve slacked off in? Are there areas where you could lean in a little more—with balance?
We’ll never be perfect—but maybe aiming high while accepting our imperfections is the sweet spot.
LORD, thank you for forgiving our sins through Jesus. Thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Please draw us close. Help us walk closely with you. And as Paul once said, “In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were doing it for the Lord, not for people.” (Colossians 3:23 NCV) Help us live that way, Lord. IJNIP amen ♥️
