God’s Personality, In His Own Words

How can we really get to know God—how He thinks, what moves His heart, what stirs His joy, or even His anger?

How does He judge? How does He protect? How does He provide?

The answer is actually simpler than you might expect: read the Bible. Especially the Old Testament.

Take Deuteronomy for example. When God was bringing His people into the Promised Land, the writer tells us:

“The Lord your God will bring you into the land that you are entering and that you will have as your own. As you go in, he will force out the evil and stronger nations … “ (Deuteronomy 7:1 NCV)

That’s the kind of provider God is. When He provides, He really provides.

He doesn’t just give a blessing—He clears the way for it. The good enters, the evil gets pushed out. He gives us exactly what we need, and He fiercely protects what’s His.

Throughout Scripture, we see these pieces of God's character revealed—His personality, His passions, His standards.

At one point, God says:

“Don’t worship any other god, because I, the Lord, the Jealous One, am a jealous God.” (Exodus 34:14 NCV)

He’s not jealous of us, but for us. He desires our full attention, our full affection. He wants to be our one and only God.

Then there’s this from Luke:

“Show mercy, just as your Father shows mercy.” (Luke 6:36 NCV)

God is merciful. He’s loving. Most of us know this verse by heart:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16)

God loves the sinner. He is just.

He is drawn to the humble: “Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.” (Psalm 25:8-9 ESV)

And the list goes on: He is holy. He is patient. He can become angry. He can destroy, He can heal. He helps. He grieves. He forgives.

We were made in His image: “God created human beings in his image.” (Genesis 1:27 NCV)

That means we’ve inherited aspects of His nature—spiritual depth, moral awareness, creativity, free will, love, a desire for relationship. The fingerprints of God are all over us.

So what’s the takeaway?

We have a purpose. God has a plan for you and me - do you know what it is? . We were created to live forever in eternity with Him—but only through the one way He’s provided: Jesus.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.’” (John 14:6 NCV)

If you’re hurting, if you're anxious, weak, confused, or just worn out—call on the One who created you. You are made in His image, and He loves you more than you could ever imagine.

He gives us the Holy Spirit—the ultimate Helper. Just ask… and you will receive.

I hope that brings you hope today. You are on the cusp of wholeness and healing.

LORD, thank you a thousand times for your love and your holy, perfectly balanced character. IJNIP amen ♥️
