Leaning Into God: Overcoming Conflict With Faith

What kind of conflict are you facing right now? Is it with a person? A struggle to do what’s right? A battle with temptation? Maybe it’s even the challenge of forgiving someone.

The truth is—everyone has conflict.

It’s interesting, isn’t it? Our knee-jerk reaction tends to pull us toward the wrong choice rather than the right one. When conflict arises, we often lean into sin instead of leaning into God.

We let our emotions take over instead of depending on Him to guide us through it. But why is that?

Solomon once said:

“People who do what is right may have many problems, but the Lord will solve them all.” (Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭19‬ ‭NCV‬)

Problems are a given. Whether we sin against someone or they sin against us—it happens. Even Jesus made it clear:

“In this world you will have trouble, but be brave! I have defeated the world.” (John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ ‭NCV‬‬)

Wouldn’t it be great if we could just float through life without conflict? No pain, no struggles, no temptations. But that’s not reality. Sin is real. Satan is real. Temptation is real. And yes, bad things happen.

The Apostle James said: “But people are tempted when their own evil desire leads them away and traps them. This desire leads to sin, and then the sin grows and brings death.” (‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭NCV‬)

But here’s the good news—God is real too. And He is greater.

Solomon reminds us that “the Lord will solve them all.” And Jesus commands us to “be brave,” because He has already won the victory.

So how does God help us in times of conflict?

I won’t lie to you—it’s not always easy. But it is simple. We must be willing to lean into a few key things and have faith in them:

1. Desire to overcome sin in your own life.

2. Acknowledge that sin only leads to destruction. But following God? That brings life, fulfillment, and peace. Even if you don’t fully trust that yet, I challenge you—give it your best effort to depend on this truth.

3. Lean into God’s Word and God’s people. When conflict confuses you, God’s Word is your roadmap. It gives clarity when everything feels chaotic.

4. And don’t forget the power of Godly community. Surround yourself with people who will support you, hold you accountable, and point you back to Him.

5. Pray—really pray. Not just once or twice, but all the time. Pray alone. Pray with others. Keep praying. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you, to strengthen you, and to give you the faith to trust in God’s way.

The level of your conflict will determine the level of effort and seriousness required to overcome it. But victory is possible. You just have to believe it.

Have faith in your obedience. Know that God sees your efforts, and He will bless them.

And then—stand by. Because God? He never fails. And He “will” surprise you with something incredible.

LORD, So many of our troubles come from our own actions. Whether this conflict is from my own doing or from others, help me (us) to lean into Your Word, seek godly support, and pray without ceasing. I (we) need You—every day, every hour. Please help me and help all those around me. IJNIP amen. ❤️
