Have you ever asked yourself why the book of Leviticus is part of the Bible?
It’s one of those texts many are tempted to skip—but if you grasp why it’s there, your love for God (and yourself) will only grow deeper.
Leviticus is the third book in the Bible, following Exodus, where God rescued the Israelites from the chains of slavery. And just as He did then, He’s still working today to free you and me—from the slavery of sin, depression, addiction, hate, impurity, and so many other modern-day bonds.
Although the way God delivers us has changed since the days before Jesus, His mission remains the same.Back then, before Jesus entered the scene, God provided the Israelites with a detailed way to cleanse themselves from sin and impurity.
Yet in Exodus, even after experiencing God’s miraculous rescue, the people quickly fell back into grumbling, even fashioning a golden calf for worship—forgetting the incredible love and deliverance God had shown them.
In Leviticus, however, God graciously outlined how to live morally, maintain purity, and receive forgiveness for sins that separated them from Him.
Why does God relentlessly pursue us? Why does He continuously offer a path to forgiveness and reconciliation?
It’s because He is holy, and He desires that you and I be holy too.
Who else could love us enough to provide a way into His very presence? In those early days, it came through intricate rituals and sacrifices. Today, that path is fully realized in Jesus Christ.
Jesus summed it up when He declared that the two most important commands are to love God with all our heart and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Even Leviticus aligns with these core truths, and Jesus affirmed that the entire Bible does as well.
So I ask you: Where is your love today? How is your relationship with God, with Christ, with the Holy Spirit, and with others? Is there lingering hate, impurity, sin, or division in your life?
Perhaps it’s time to reconcile everything and wholeheartedly give your life to Christ—to God—and to the Holy Spirit.
This is the true place of freedom and rescue.
LORD, You have always been in the saving business, then and now. You long for a relationship with us and for our deliverance from darkness. Just as You once invited the Israelites into Your holy presence, You still extend that invitation today. Help us see it, believe it, and respond with our entire being.
IJNIP amen ♥️
