If ten people gave your eulogy at your funeral, what would they say about you?
Wait - stop for a moment and think about it. In fact, if you are willing, take 30 minutes and write out your own eulogy.
I suppose the first thought might be “Do you have ten people that would speak about you?”
How many people have you influenced in your life? And did you influence them well?
Are you familiar with Nabal? He was a guy David, prior to becoming King David visited.
He was “A man in Maon who had land at Carmel and was very rich. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was cutting the wool off his sheep at Carmel. His name was Nabal, and he was a descendant of Caleb. His wife was named Abigail. She was wise and beautiful, but Nabal was cruel and mean.” (1 Samuel 25:2-3 NCV)
Wow, I hope people would not say that about me.
I suppose I have a list of those who may not speak highly of me, however I’ve tried my best to leave a trail of good and Godly effort behind me.
The deeper question is “How many have you (and me) helped, loved, forgiven, inspired, rescued, given to, shared Christ with, provided good counsel to, provided physical and financial help - and the list goes on?”
It’s easy to live for etertainment, love the lovely, befriend the friendly and overlook the pain and needs of others.
More important, it’s very easy to avoid the discussion of life, heaven, hell, death and so on.
No, I’m not suggesting everything has to be deep and spiritual, however once in a while, we all need a heart and soul check. And it needs to be surfaced and discussed.
LORD, may no one say we did not love you and love them. Help us to be selfless and not selfish. Help us to enjoy the life we have here, however help us to prepare and help others prepare for the life after this one. IJNIP amen ♥️
