When Today Decides Tomorrow

If you could see your future, how would it change your life today? It’s a wild question, because it could lead anywhere.
Maybe death is closer than you think. Or maybe you’ll make more money, find a new relationship, get healthier, or be completely healed. What’s really in your future?
Jesus could see the future. He didn’t guess—He knew. And what He saw often brought Him to tears.
“As Jesus came near Jerusalem, He saw the city and cried for it.” (Luke 19:41 NCV)
Picture this:
Jesus is riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowd is going wild—waving palm branches and shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!” It looked like a celebration.
But Jesus wasn’t caught up in the moment He stopped… and wept. Why?
They missed the moment of their salvation. Jesus said:
“If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes.” (Luke 19:42)
They didn’t recognize Him as the Messiah. They were hoping for a conquering king, not a suffering Savior. Their hearts were hard. Their vision blinded.
He foresaw the coming destruction. He predicted exactly what would happen:
“Your enemies will build a wall around you and hold you in on all sides. They will destroy you and all your people, and not one stone will be left on another.” (Luke 19:43–44 NCV)
That wasn’t just imagery—it literally happened. In A.D. 70, the Romans laid siege to Jerusalem. They starved the people. Some turned to cannibalism. The city was slaughtered, and the Temple was dismantled—stone by stone—as the Romans scraped for melted gold. Just as Jesus said: not one stone left on another.
He loved them deeply. Jesus wasn’t mad. He wasn’t bitter. He was heartbroken.
Like a parent watching a child make devastating choices, He grieved—not just for the pain they were choosing, but for the peace they were rejecting.
“All this will happen because you did not recognize the time when God came to save you.” (Luke 19:44)
He didn’t weep for Himself. He wept for them. And here’s the sobering truth:
You can shout “Hosanna!” You can show up to the parade. You can look like a worshiper - And still miss the point.
Are we recognizing the time of God’s coming in our lives? Are we letting pride, comfort, or religion dull our ability to hear His voice?
This wasn’t just prophecy. It was one of the most profound and heart-wrenching moments in all of Scripture. Jesus wasn’t angry. He was full of compassion.
Love said these words. Truth wept over them. And His voice still speaks today - into your and my future.
LORD, help us really plan for our future. It’s coming whether we are ready or not … IJNIP amen ♥️
